About the scheme
Ishan Uday is a special scholarship scheme of the UGC for students of the North Eastern Region. Its aim is to give equal opportunities for higher studies, increase the gross enrolment ratio and promote professional education in the region. Scholarship slots are distributed among the NER states on the basis of population, and unfilled slots of one state are shared with the others. There is a 3 percent horizontal reservation for differently-abled persons, and transgender candidates are eligible to apply. The scholarship is paid directly into the student’s bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
